Essenes
Essenes a Jewish messianic sect which existed at the time of Jesus, and which is associated with Qumran, the ancient monastic settlement where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found.
The discovery of these texts in the mid 20th century led many to think Jesus may have been an Essene, so closely did their pacifist credo match the New Testament belief and practice.
