Phrenology

Phrenology is the study of the bumps on the head that give a guide to general character and mental capacity.  

This system which was very popular in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries has now been largely discredited, leaving only the intriguing sight of white porcelain heads with strange black diagrams littering junk shops worldwide.
